So over the past few weeks at university I have been focusing on colour palettes within my seminar. It was down to you as an individual which 4-5 colours you wanted to focus on and due to the fact in the UK around this time it is always rainy, windy and cold I chose to stick with autumn/winter colours.
Here was my final outcome of different ways I could play around with my colour palette on photo shop..
As you can see I chose to stick with burnt oranges, dark/mint greens and browns. The next task I was set was to research images and find photos/papers/magazines that represent the mood I am wanting to portray. I created four different mood boards each with a different approach.
Number1: Minimal
This approach involves selecting 6-7 images out of all of your research that you think most capture the story you are trying to portray.
Number 2: Grid
This approach is to literally lay everything out side by side in almost a grid formation. This is to make it simple for viewers and to not over-complicate the images.
Number 3: Freeform
This approach is called freeform - this means that you have a lot going on in one side of the page and the main image standing tall on the other side of the page. This technique can draw the viewer in as they notice that the main image is standing alone thus question what it can mean.

Number 4: Maximum.
This approach says it in the name - all your research comes together and overlaps to represent all of your findings and really captures your colour palette.
Now I can see my final colour palette’s together I believe the best approach for my autumn/winter story is maximum. I like the way everything is thrown together to create one final message, from the eiffel tower to the model for Next clothing - the colours come together to represent Autumn in my eyes.
If you were to choose a colour palette, what colours would you focus on?
