A topic we don't often talk about..

Over the past couple of months I have been conducting a lot of research into Alzheimer's for my chosen path into my university brief, (I know, even when I wrote that I questioned how that had any relation to fashion but still...). As my deadline is creeping up extremely fast I won't go into much detail about my work until I can publish on to http://issuu.com/ellahigham however I do want to make people more aware of Alzheimer's disease and how we can open our eyes to it a little more so I thought I would note down what I have found out recently.

Key facts:

  • Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia which is a term for memory loss and problems around thinking skills.
  • If you are a woman, you are at a higher risk - studies show that Alzheimers worsens in women compared to men.
  • Heart disease can raise the risk of Alzheimer's disease - which directly links with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and poor diet.
  • Education can lower your risk - studies show that if you learn new things in old age such as taking classes, learning languages and interacting with others in group activities.
  • Alzheimer's disease was first observed in 1906 - a German doctor noted that part of the patients brain were shrunken.

Here was an image I pinned onto my Pinterest https://www.pinterest.com/highamella/
which gave me the idea of 'A head full of thoughts' that I will embed into my presentation this month.
